Itinerary :
Day 1: Ouarzazate ➝ Draa Valley ➝ M’hamid
The adventure begins in Ouarzazate, heading south through striking landscapes where mountains gradually give way to desert plains. The route winds past traditional villages and fortified kasbahs, offering glimpses into life along ancient trade routes. As you follow the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest oasis, endless palm groves and earthen architecture create a timeless atmosphere.
After a pause in Zagora, the journey continues toward M’hamid, the last settlement before the open Sahara. Here, paved roads disappear and the desert truly begins. As night falls, enjoy a peaceful evening surrounded by sand and stars, with traditional cuisine marking your first night in the desert.
Day 2: M’hamid ➝ Sacred Oasis ➝ Erg Chigaga
After breakfast, leave the village behind and head off-road into the vast wilderness of the Sahara. The landscape becomes increasingly remote, broken only by desert plains, scattered acacia trees, and hidden oases. A stop at the Sacred Oasis offers a moment of contrast, lush greenery emerging unexpectedly from the arid surroundings.
By afternoon, the towering dunes of Erg Chigaga rise on the horizon, forming an awe-inspiring sea of sand. Upon arrival, take time to explore the dunes before enjoying a camel ride as the sun slowly sinks into the desert. The evening is spent deep among the dunes, gathered around a fire, listening to traditional rhythms, sharing stories, and gazing at a sky filled with stars.
Day 3: Erg Chigaga ➝ Lake Iriqui ➝ Foum Zguid ➝ Ouarzazate
Wake early to witness the desert at sunrise, when the dunes glow with shifting shades of gold and amber. After breakfast, depart across the vast expanse of Lake Iriqui, a dry desert basin that stretches endlessly toward the horizon.
Continue through remote desert settlements before reaching Taznakht, a region known for its artisanal weaving traditions. After a relaxed break, begin the return journey to Ouarzazate, arriving in the afternoon and bringing your Sahara adventure to a close.
